Specialty Camps Incubator

With the generous support of the Jim Joseph Foundation, the Foundation for Jewish Camp is establishing the Specialty Camps Incubator III, designed to provide expertise and support to a cohort of individuals or organizations as they plan and implement their vision for new models of nonprofit, Jewish overnight specialty camps.

Incubator III will launch four new Jewish specialty camps, provide funding to the new camps during their planning, start-up and first three years of operation, and evaluate the progress of each camp’s development. Each new camp will receive start-up investment and 3 year operational funding of up to $1.4 million, pegged to performance goals.

Incubator III Camps will be announced in Fall 2016

  • All applicants will be notified of the outcome of this review by August 15, 2016.
  • If you are selected, interviews at the Foundation for Jewish Camp offices in New York City will take place during the week of September 6, 2016
  • Participants will be announced by September 15, 2016.
  • Incubator III will launch with the Welcome Dinner and first Workshop on Tuesday, November 1, 2016.

The Specialty Camps Incubator provides funding to new Jewish specialty camps during their planning, start-up and first three years of operation, and evaluates the progress of each camp’s development. With support from the Jim Joseph Foundation and the AVI CHAI Foundation, Incubator I and II successfully established new business models for Jewish camps and created a forum to pilot new educational models by integrating Jewish learning with activities that kids are passionate about – the environment, performing arts, sports, and outdoor adventure. They exceeded their enrollment benchmarks with retention rates tracking at a rate 4x higher than specialty secular options. These camps provide a new path to Jewish camp for many children, serving over 2,500 campers in Summer 2015.

JCC Maccabi Sports Camp is for campers who love sports and want to advance their skills in a fun and supportive camp environment. During our two- or four-week sessions, campers focus on developing athletic skills and improving as teammates in the sport of their choice – baseball, basketball, soccer, or tennis. In addition to receiving high-level individualized instruction in sports, our campers gain life skills as well. Guided by Jewish values, we place a lot of emphasis on sportsmanship, ethics, and community. In fact, when you add the community and character building nature of team play, we find that sports and Jewish values go hand in hand.
